31DC2013 Day 9- Rainbow Nails (for equality :-) )

Hi everyone!

So today’s post comes with somewhat of a political message. I’m sorry if my views do not coincide with yours- my goal here is not to force my views upon you. I’m merely supporting my political stance in the medium that I know how to use- nail polish. If you think you might find this post offensive, please, feel free to stop reading now. I won’t be offended.

When I think of rainbows, the first thing that comes to mind is marriage equality. It’s a hot topic in America right now, since DOMA and prop 8 were struck down just this summer. Not to mention, Macklemore’s hit song “Same Love” is bringing light to the issue in a very public way. It’s great to see such amazing steps being made to achieve equality. After all, love is love. While I am not a part of the LGBT community myself, I highly support the cause, and today, I decided to use my rainbow day nails to do just that.

I started out by painting my nails red. I then used a toothpick to draw orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple stripes (in that order) in a curved way across my nails, to create the rainbows. The colors I used are as follows:

Red- e.l.f., Smokin’ Hot

Orange- Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail color, Sun Kissed

Yellow- Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail color, Mellow Yellow

Blue- e.l.f., Skinny Jeans

Green- Rue Beauté, 040

Purple- Sinful Colors, Dream On

On my ring finger and thumb, I drew the red and pink equality sign from the human rights campaign. I used e.l.f.’s Flirty Fuchsia mixed with Sinful Colors’ Snow Me White to make the perfect pink. It’s a simple logo that packs a powerful message. I’m super pleased with the end results! Pictures below are with OPI top coat (to smooth out some of the rougher lines)

I hope even if you guys don’t agree with my views, you found the design at least visually appealing. And I do hope you support the cause 🙂

Tomorrow is gradient day! I wonder how I’m going to make that creative!

I’ve also been nominated by Ginger Loves Makeup for the Liebster Award! It’s such an honor 🙂 But more on that in a later post (I’m too busy right now to even think about it!)

I’ll end with a quote from Same Love.

“No freedom till we’re equal, damn right I support it”
