31DC2013 Day 31- Honor Nails You Love <3 Part 1

Hi my lovely readers!

So, the end is upon us. I’m not sure whether to feel sad or relieved. The creative side of me wishes this challenge would go on for another month, while the practical side says LOL WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Either way, it has been an amazing run, and I’m so glad I’ve gotten to share it with all of you!

Today, I’m doing something a bit different. I’m not going to honor one nail. Oh no, that would be FAR too easy. I’m honoring 30 NAIL DESIGNS. Well, to be fair, I’m not doing any of the painting. But I feel like it’s right to celebrate all the amazing designs other bloggers have created this month. So without further ado, let’s start! (because this is gon’ take awhile…)

1) Favorite red nails: More Nail Polish

31DC2013 Day 29- Inspired by the Supernatural

Hi everyone!

Today’s prompt, the supernatural, was a bit difficult for me. I’m not into scary things (I’m such a crybaby at horror movies, it’s ridiculous) and dragons and phoenixes are too difficult to paint in miniature. I then thought of ghosts, but that seemed far too clichéd. And then it hit me: what if I went tongue-in-cheek, and did Pacman ghosts. And so it went.

To create my classic arcade-inspired nails, I started off by painting all of my nails with two coats of Love and Beauty Black. I then took Sinful Colors Snow Me White and drew the outlines of Pacman with his dots on my thumb and the 4 ghosts, Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Sue, on my other fingers. I filled in the designs with white to make sure that the colors would stand out against the black. Once that had dried, I filled in Pacman and the dots with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow, Inky with a mix of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away and Mint Sorbet, Pinky with a mix of Love and Beauty Pink Creme and Snow Me White, Blinky with e.l.f. Smokin’ Hot, and Sue with Mellow Yellow and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed. Once those colors dried, I put little white dots on the ghosts for eyes, and put a black dot inside of them. And Pacman has come to life on my nails! Pictures below are without topcoat.

So it’s not quite spooky or scary, but it sure is cute! ^__^ Sue is a little cross-eyed, but hey, she was always the odd one out xD Let me know if you like Pacman too in the comments below!

Only TWO DAYS LEFT of the 31DC2013!!! I can’t believe how fast time flies! I hope you all have enjoyed it as much as I have 🙂 Tomorrow is “inspired by a tutorial”, so if you have a favorite tutorial, make sure to let me know in the comments! I always need inspiration!

31DC2013 Day 28- Inspired by a Flag(s)

Hi everyone!

So, I’m using today’s 31DC2013 theme as an announcement. I’m going to be going on my very first trip to Europe this summer! I’m taking a cruise, so I’m going to have the opportunity to see multiple countries. And today, my nails are representing the countries I’ll be visiting. So, without further ado….

flag3

I’m going to Sweden, Finland, Russia, Latvia, and Estonia!! If you live in or are from any of these countries, let me know in the comments! You don’t know how excited I am to see these countries. The Baltic area has always fascinated me, and I can’t wait to experience the sites, sounds, and culture these countries have to offer! And of course, I’d love to see the best nail polish brands from abroad, too 🙂

To create today’s design, I used the tape manicure technique. I started with a base of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow on my thumb, Rue Beauté 043 on my pointer finger, e.l.f. Skinny Jeans on my middle finger, Sinful Colors Snow Me White on my ring finger, and Love and Beauty Black on my pinky. I made tape crosses on my thumb and pointer finger, and a strip of tape down the middle of my middle finger, ring finger, and pinky. I painted Skinny Jeans over my thumb, Snow Me White over my pointer finger, e.l.f. Smokin’ Hot on the tip of my middle finger and Snow Me White on the base, Smokin’ Hot on my ring finger, and Skinny Jeans on the base of my pinky, and Snow Me White on the tip. I peeled off the tape, and ta da! Lots of flags, in the order of my itinerary! Pictures below are with OPI topcoat.

I hope you guys like them! And to my viewers from these 5 countries, what are the best local nail polish brands, and where can I find them when I’m on my vacation? I’d love to be able to pick up some foreign lacquers as souvenirs!

We’re winding down on the 31DC2013, folks! It’s been one crazy ride, no? Tomorrow is a supernatural inspired design. Oooh, ghosts and monsters and witches! Can’t wait!

31DC2013 Day 27- Inspired by Artwork (The Scream)

Hi all!

I’m going to admit, today was a struggle. I’m really no artist, I just happen to be good with nail polish. I swear, when I pick up a paintbrush or colored pencil and try to do this stuff in real life, the end result is horrific. I don’t know why it always works on my nails, lol! So having to put a real life work of art on my nails was kinda terrifying! In the end, I’m pleased with the result, and I hope you agree with me!

Much-The_Scream

My inspiration for today’s design came from the painting The Scream by Edvard Munch. It’s very surreal, which I love because of its abstract nature. I immediately knew that I wanted to emulate the swirls of the paint through water marble, and I separated the color patterns into three parts: the oranges, yellows, and reds of the sky, the blues of the water, and the browns of the bridge. I started by painting all of my nails white (Sinful Colors Snow Me White) to get the best and boldest water marble.

To get the sun-lit sky, I put drops of Essie Tart Deco, e.l.f. Smokin’ Hot, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow and Sally Hansen Sun Kissed into a bowl of lukewarm tap water. I used a toothpick to draw random, linear patterns, and dipped my thumb and middle finger into the mix. To get the water, I put drops of Rue Beauté 043, Rue Beauté 033, e.l.f. Lavender Mist, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow, and Sinful Colors Snow Me White into a bowl, created the same linear pattern, and dipped my pointer and ring fingers into the mix. For the bridge, I mixed Rue Beauté 004 and Rue Beauté 063 in the same linear pattern, and just dipped in my pinky.

For the scream himself, I mixed together Snow Me White, 004, and Love and Beauty Black on a palette, and freehanded the shape of his face on my ring finger. Once that dried, I used a mix of black and the navy 043 to freehand the mouth and eyes. I then used the grey mixture to draw on his hands next to his face. And ta da! Art on my fingers! Pictures below are with OPI topcoat.

So there’s my version of art. Please share if you like it! It means a lot to me! And I really want to see all of your amazing nail art designs as well, so make sure to share them!

Tomorrow is flag inspired day. I already have my design planned and ready to go! Come back tomorrow to see what I have in store!

31DC2013 Day 26- Inspired by a Pattern! (Zig-Zags)

Hi everyone!

5 DAYS LEFT!!! I cannot believe that this 31DC2013 has gone by this fast. I really think that I’ve gotten much better at nail art during this month. I hope you guys think so too!

Today’s design was inspired by this lovely pattern I found on Google.

pink_and_blue_zigzag_pattern_poster-r9cb36c76b7bf466ca3de79c1f0b0f633_wvk_8byvr_512

I originally wanted to do a triangular/geometric design, but I couldn’t find something I liked. This just screamed at me: Look at those colors! And I had colors in my stash that I knew could do this pattern justice, so I got started!

I felt kinda lazy today, so I freehanded the whole design instead of taping things out. I started with a base of 2 coats of Sinful Colors Dream On, a satin-matte neon purple. Once that dried, I painted on zigzags using the following colors:

Teal: Sinful Colors Rise and Shine

Black: Love and Beauty Black

Baby Pink: a mix of Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Love and Beauty Pink (the one with blue shimmer running through it)

Once the zigzags were complete to my satisfaction, I finished it off with OPI topcoat! Pictures are below!

So what do you think of the design? I know stripes and zigzags have been done thousands of times, but I hope you like my color choice and execution!

We’re nearing the end of the challenge, folks! Tomorrow is “Inspired by an Artwork” day. Isn’t all nail art considered art? This should be easy!

31DC2013 Day 25- Inspired by a Fashion! (Tweed Coat)

Hi all!

Less than a week of the 31DC2013 to go! I can’t believe we’ve all gotten this far! Kudos to all who have been involved in such a taxing challenge. The nail art that has come out of it has been fantastic! Let me tell you, it’s going to be hard to pick a favorite look come day 31!

Today’s design is not actually my own. It was actually inspired by the lovely Michelle Mismas over at All Lacquered Up. If you haven’t already, please, check out her blog. She’s an incredible nail guru with more tips and tricks than I even thought were possible! She’s pretty much my idol in the nail blogging world, and she’s one of the reasons that I started my blog in the first place 🙂

365619

To create my pink coat design, I started with two coats of Claire’s Hot Stuff (reviewed in this week’s On Wednesdays We Wear Pink segment!). Once that dried, I applied one generous coat of Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat topcoat in Tweedy, to create the tweed fabric effect on the nail. I then took Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Love and Beauty Black with toothpicks, and drew random, overlapping lines to create a tweed effect. It’s such a simple design with such a fun end result! Pictures below are without topcoat.

Tomorrow’s look is inspired by a pattern. Oh boy. Tune in tomorrow to see what I choose!

31DC2013 Day 23- Inspired by a Movie (Monsters Inc.)

Hi ladies!

Today I have a design inspired by one of my all time favorite movies: MONSTERS INC. I absolutely loved the movie as a child, and I still do today! Mike and Sully and Boo will forever have my heart ❤ So now I’m going to wear my heart on my nails!

I wanted to incorporate my two favorite characters into the design, Mike and Sully. Mike, I knew, would be easy to put on my nails, because he fits the general shape. Sully, on the other hand, would be a challenge. To amend the situation, I opted to pay an “ode to Sully” on my pointer finger, middle finger, and pinky, painting my nails with a mix of Wet n’ Wild Megalast in I Need a Refresh-mint and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away, and then painting on splotches of purple with a toothpick by using a mix of e.l.f. Skinny Jeans and Sinful Colors Dream On. To create Mike, I started out with two coats of Sinful Colors Innocent (CAUTION: Always use base coat with this polish, it stains like crazy!). I then drew a white circle with Sinful Colors Snow Me White to create an eye, then put a medium size dot of a mix of Skinny Jeans and Innocent to make the iris, followed by a dot of Love and Beauty Black to create the pupil. I also outlined the top part of the eye very thinly with a toothpick to create a crease. For the mouth, I used black to create a smiling face, the used Snow Me White to dot on teeth, and Mike was done! For my thumb, I used Skinny Jeans over Snow Me White to draw the Monsters Inc. logo freehanded. I SOOO love the results! Pictures below are without topcoat.

So what do you guys think? Are you a fan of this monstrous mani? What’s your favorite Disney/Pixar movie of all time? Let me know in the comments!

Tomorrow’s 31DC2013 challenge is Inspired by a book. Luckily, I read. A lot. So I’m sure tomorrow’s inspiration will be pages come alive! Come back tomorrow to find out what fine piece of literature I choose!

31DC2013 Day 22- Inspired by a Song! (Bastille- Pompeii)

Hi everyone!

I’m really excited for this look because the song I’ve chosen to be inspired by is probably one of my favorites of all time! I love the group Bastille, and their new album, Bad Blood, has been my obsession since its release. The best song off the album, in my opinion, is Pompeii, a gorgeous song featuring strong vocals. I love to wake up to this in the morning because it just makes my day better! The music video is amazing, check it out here!

I took my inspiration for my nails today from scenes from the music video. The design was done completely freehand with toothpicks, so I’m not going to explain how I drew each design. However, I will include screen grabs to show which scene from the video each nail was inspired by!

31DC2013 Day 20- Water Marbled Nails!

Hi ladies!

¡Hola chicas!

I cannot believe it’s already day 20 of this challenge! I haven’t missed a day yet! I hope you guys are enjoying my designs so far, because I’m having so much fun making them! Your support has certainly been amazing!

¡No creo que ya sea día 20 de este desafío! ¡Todavía no me he saltado un día! Espero que todas las personas les encanten mis diseños, porque me gusta mucho hacerlos. Su apoyo me ayuda mucho 🙂

Since fall officially begins tomorrow (YAY sweater weather!) I felt inspired to use fall colors in my design. I started with a base of, what else, 1 coat of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. After that dried, I gathered my colors for the design. The colors I chose are as follows:

Si otoño empieza mañana, quiero usar colores del otoño en mi diseño. Empecé con una basa de Sinful Colors Snow Me White. Después, conseguí mis colores por el diseño. Los colores que elegí son:

OPI I Knead Sour Dough  (burnt burgundy-pink) (café-rosa)

Fresh Paints Dragon Lady (sparkly green) (verde con brillos)

Essie Tart Deco (hot coral) (coral brillante)

Rue Beauté 004 (dark brown) (marrón oscuro)

I tried a new water marble technique today. Instead of drawing lines in the polish when it was on the water, I swirled the polish. I really like how it turned out! The color combination really reminds me of an autumn pumpkin! Pictures below are with OPI topcoat.

I love how my design turned out today! Water marble really isn’t a challenge for me, I do it really often, so I wanted to try the new technique to make it something new. I hope you like it!

Me gusta mucho este diseño hoy. Water marble no es un desafío para mi, porque me gusta hacerlo muchas veces. Pues, quería probar la técnica nueva para crear algo nuevo. ¡Espero que les guste!

If you love this look, make sure to share it on social media! I always appreciate your support 🙂

Si le gusta este look, por favor, compártalo en Facebook, Twitter, y otras redes sociales. Me gusta su apoyo 🙂

Tomorrow starts the “inspired by…” part of the challenge. Come visit tomorrow to see what I come up with!

31DC2013 Day 19- Galaxy Nails!

Hi earthlings!

Today I have for you a super fun, outer-space inspired manicure! I’m gonna have to admit to you guys, this was the challenge I’ve been the most nervous about. Looking at other galaxy nails scares me a bit- they all look sooooo complicated! Thankfully, with the help of some youtube tutorials (thanks again to cutepolish!) and some sponging practice, I think I’ve gotten the hang of it! I hope you’ll like it!

I started out with two coats of Love and Beauty Black polish. Once that dried, I tore off a piece of a makeup sponge to make sure the edges of the sponge were kind of jagged (it helps keep the design look blended and not so stark). I dipped the sponge in Sinful Colors Snow Me White (making sure there was barely any polish on the sponge) and dabbed the white in stripes across my nail to look like the bases of little nebulas. After letting the white dry, I took the same sponge, dipping it this time into e.l.f. Sunflower, a slightly shimmery yellow. I sponged this all over the white area, trying to concentrate the color near one specific area of the white (it’s up to you to pick where you want that area to be). After letting that dry, I took a pink, Wet n’ Wild Shine in Lavender Creme, to repeat the same sponging technique. Now let me pause for a moment. Lavender Creme. REALLY Wet n’ Wild? This color is a hot pink, there’s nothing lavender about it… Usually Wet n’ Wild is pretty spot on with their super cute and creative names, but this just confuses me…. But enough of that tangent. Back to the design! Once the pink dries, I took a navy polish (Rue Beauté 043) and dabbed it on the outer edges of the nebulas to blend them in. I wanted the design to look super blended, so I was generous with the navy. I then took a toothpick and Snow Me White and dabbed tiny stars in random areas across the nail, and put bigger dots to represent larger stars in the middle of the nebulas. To finish off, I took Ulta Salon Formula Nail Color in Glitter Topcoat to create even tinier stars on the nails. And ta da! Done! Aren’t they out of this world? (totally pun intended). Pictures below are without topcoat!

Artificial, indoor light

Artificial, indoor light

Artificial, indoor lighting

Artificial, indoor lighting

Artificial, indoor lighting

Artificial, indoor lighting

Some of the white dots smeared a bit when I applied the glitter topcoat, but I like how that looks. It almost reminds me of shooting stars! In this case, the smudging is a good thing!

I hope you all like this design! I’m really proud of how it turned out! And I promise, it’s easy. It’s so impressive looking, but it takes, like, 15 minutes to do. The longest waiting you’ll do is for your black polish to dry! If you like this look, please share it on social media, and make sure to share your galaxy designs with me, as well!

Tomorrow is water marbling day! We all know I’m a huge fan of this technique, so I hope I can come up with something amazing for you!
