MOTD- Kleancolor “Holo Chrome” and Beautyjoint.com Review!

Hi everyone!

So, this point was actually meant to be published yesterday, and then I fell asleep… What can I say? It was a long week and sometimes sleep > nails (but only sometimes, usually it’s the other way around!) Better late than never though, right? So let’s get started on today’s post!

A while ago, I heard about the website Beautyjoint.com while browsing through my favorite beauty guru channels on youtube. Though I can’t remember the specific channel I discovered the website on, all you have to do is search “Beauty Joint review” and you’ll get a whole slew of results. The reviews I found were overwhelmingly positive (and also included a coupon code!!) so of course I had to try it out. The website had all sorts of makeup, but of course I gravitated immediately to the nail section. The first thing that floored me was the China Glaze discounts. Guys, there are $3.99 bottles of China Glaze. As low as $3.99!! What a bargain! There are also several old collections, such as the Avant Garden collection from spring 2013 and Capitol Colors from Winter 2012, as well as the current collections, such as On the Horizon and Autumn Nights. There’s also a great collection of mini nail polish sets from various brands such as LA Girl, Wet n’ Wild, and more. The selection is second to none! And for the most part, the prices are majorly discounted.

Look at the prices! Such a bargain!

Look at the prices! Such a bargain!

I ordered 4 nail polishes in my order: 2 from Kleancolor (a brand which I had never heard of before) and 2 nail art stripers from Artdeco. The polish was shipped within 3-5 business days, and arrived in less than 3 weeks. The shipment was wrapped in layers upon layers of bubble wrap, and everything arrived perfectly intact. I was very pleased with the quality of shipping, product, and the company overall. Beautyjoint.com is a must-try for all of you beauty enthusiasts out there: you wont be disappointed!

Today, I have one of the colors I ordered from Beauty Joint, Kleancolor Holo Chrome. Surprisingly, for being “chrome” (generally a metallic blackened silver), this has a blurple gel base (“blurple” being a blue purple). It’s filled with holographic blurple and silver glitters which flash rainbows of sparkle when the light hits them. This is most definitely a scattered holo polish, not a linear one like my Born Pretty holo. It has a really weird smell to it. I can’t really describe it, but it doesn’t smell like the “traditional” nail polish smell. It’s not exactly unpleasant, but not exactly nice, either. It’s kinda thick, but considering the glitter density, I can excuse it. Pictures below are 2 coats!

Overall, I really like this polish. The $1.75 price tag made it even better! Have any of you tried Kleancolor polishes? What were your experiences? And anyone else try Beautyjoint? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Hunger Games Nail Art!

Hello tributes!

Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor! In honor of tonight’s release of the new Hunger Games trilogy movie, Catching Fire, I decided to pay homage to the popular series with a little nail art! The Hunger Games is honestly one of my favorite book series of all times. I read all three books while I was recovering from surgery last spring and it kept me engaged and distracted from the pain. I’ve heard good things about the second movie, and I love Jennifer Lawrence (such a classy lady), so I can’t wait to see it sometime soon!

The most well known symbols of the Hunger Games series are the mockingjay and fire, since Katniss is “The Girl on Fire”. On all my fingers except for my ring finger, I painted two coats of China Glaze Smoke and Ashes, a smoky black with a subtle blue and green duochrome, and is appropriately part of last year’s Capitol Colors Collection (the District 12 shade!). On my thumb, I used a toothpick and a small dotting tool to freehand Katniss’s iconic mockingjay pin using Body Central Gold. On my ring finger (which I painted with 1 coat of e.l.f. Sunflower), I created a flame inspired gradient, using Ulta Ruby Slipper (the red), OPI A Woman’s Prague-ative (the orange-y gold) and e.l.f. Sunflower (the yellow). On the rest of my nails, I used a medium sized dotting tool with Gold to create a line of dots across the sides of my black nails. I’m super happy with how this turned out! Pictures below are with OPI topcoat.

I’m getting so much better at freehanding things these days, I’m quite pleased with myself. I hope I get to wear this to the movies- I always take off manicures so quickly in order to blog. Guess I’ll just have to go see it tomorrow! What do you think of my Katniss Everdeen nail art tribute? Let me know in the comments!

MOTD- China Glaze “Agro”

Hi there everyone!

Happy Saturday! I’m so glad it’s the weekend, but I had SAT tests this morning, so I’m really sleepy and kinda drained. Oh well, hopefully I’ll never have to take them again!

To cheer me up, I decided to pull out one of my favorite all time colors. It’s perfect for fall, but I love it so much, I wear it all the time! It’s China Glaze Agro. This color was part of the hugely popular Capitol Colors Collection from 2012, and I got it in a 4-pack with Smoke and Ashes (a deep black with blue and green flecks), Fast Track (a gorgeous gold-flecked nude), and Luxe and Lush (a red-toned flaky topper). This collection was mind-bogglingly amazing, and I’m still a little mad at myself for not buying more of it. I guess there’s always Amazon for that!

In keeping with the Hunger Games theme, each polish of the collection represented a District, and Agro represents district 11, the agricultural district (hence the name!). Agro is a beautifully deep dark olive green with a subtle gold flash. This is somewhat frosted, but not so much so that brush strokes are an issue. If you apply the polish in even strokes, the brush strokes are hardly visible. It’s slightly on the thicker side, but still completely workable, and you could almost get away with 1 coat because it’s so opaque! I used 2 for pictures below, no topcoat.

You can see that in some light, the gold and olive color shines through more, and in other light, it has a more pure darkened green.

I love this color, I think it flatters my extremely pale skin tone quite well, and I love the formula! I don’t own that many China Glaze polishes (and I really need to fix that ASAP) but I’m so glad this one’s in my collection! What do you think?

China Glaze polishes retail between $7-$9 a bottle, and can be found at salons, beauty supply stores, and on their website, here.

~Beth~

PS- Thanks to miss Elektra King, I tried Agro with Luxe and Lush on top and OMG SUCH A SHOWSTOPPING COMBO. It’s like the Girl on Fire on my nails! They shine gold. Thanks for the tip, hon 🙂

31DC2013 Day 22- Inspired by a Song! (Bastille- Pompeii)

Hi everyone!

I’m really excited for this look because the song I’ve chosen to be inspired by is probably one of my favorites of all time! I love the group Bastille, and their new album, Bad Blood, has been my obsession since its release. The best song off the album, in my opinion, is Pompeii, a gorgeous song featuring strong vocals. I love to wake up to this in the morning because it just makes my day better! The music video is amazing, check it out here!

I took my inspiration for my nails today from scenes from the music video. The design was done completely freehand with toothpicks, so I’m not going to explain how I drew each design. However, I will include screen grabs to show which scene from the video each nail was inspired by!

31DC2013 Day 21- Inspired by a Color (Emerald)

Hi everyone!

So today, I have something a bit different for you. My inspiration today is from the color emerald (since today’s 31DC2013 challenge is inspired by a color), but there’s a bit of a twist. I picked emerald because it also happens to be the color of my makeup look of the day! Emerald is SUPER on trend this fall. I bet we’ll see a lot of emerald on the red carpet at the Emmy’s tomorrow night! So, I guess today, The Polish Influenza is going to become The Makeup Influenza!

The design I’ve done on my eyes today is kind of a sophisticated grunge look. It features heavy black eyeliner, softened by a bright emerald highlight in the inner corner of the eye. Here is the look!

Eyes1

Yes, those are my eyes 🙂

To achieve the look, I started by covering my lids with Urban Decay Primer Potion. In my opinion, it’s the absolute best eyeshadow primer out there. My eyeshadow lasts all day long with barely any creasing when I wear it! I then took an Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in 12 I Have a Green (a gorgeous, sparkly green emerald) and colored in my inner corner, making sure to get in my waterline and tight-line. I then took an e.l.f. Shimmer Eyeliner Pencil in Black and lined the rest of my eyes, smoking it out with my finger to make it look less harsh. PRO TIP: To get a creamy consistency of any eyeliner pencil, hold it over a source of heat (like a flat iron for hair) in order to warm it up first. Just be careful not to burn yourself!

I then took I Have a Green one more time and blended it up from my inner corner onto the inner lid. Over top of that, I took a bright green shimmer color from the BH Cosmetics 120 Palette 1st Edition and used my finger to dab it over I Have a Green, and blended it out with an e.l.f. studio Blending Brush. The green shadow helps to intensify the color of the green eyeliner. On the lower part of my lids, I took the color Gunmetal from the original Urban Decay Naked Palette, and blended it onto my lid with my finger and a blending brush. I finished off the look by applying two coats of Rimmel Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara in 001 Black to both my upper and lower lashes. And voila! Gorgeous eyes ready for a night on the town!

eyes

This makeup look served as my emerald-themed inspiration for the 31DC2013 today! For my nails, I started out with a base of Sephora by OPI Bring on the Snowflakes, a bright, metallic silver foil shimmer. I only needed one coat despite it being somewhat patchy. I then took Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Emerald City (a shimmery dark emerald) and China Glaze Smoke and Mirrors (from the Hunger Games collection- a deep black with green and blue shimmer running through it) and put little dots of color in random places over the nail. I then took a piece of cellophane and crumpled it up, and used it to spread the polish dots over my nails in a marbled design. The saran wrap nail design is super popular these days, and I love how my take on it turned out! It almost looks like the surface of a precious stone! Pictures below are with OPI Topcoat.

I hope you guys like my attempt at a makeup look today. It probably won’t be a regular thing (unless you want it to be!) but I definitely wanted to try my hand at the beauty guru thing! Hopefully it was a success!

If you like either of the looks I showed you today, please, share them on social media! I always appreciate your amazing support 🙂

Tomorrow’s 31DC2013 challenge is Inspired by a Song. Oh my… please. Leave me some song suggestions. I’m so stumped on this one!

I love it because it reminds me of all my favorite shiny Christmas decorations my family puts up around the holiday season. Here’s a pic of the colors and display!

Obviously, there’s a lot of overlap between the sets, but there should be something to satisfy everyone here! Of course, if you have a lemming for that Tree-mendous green, you’re going to have to purchase that one separately 😦 Oh well.

This collection should become available at salons and beauty supply stores in October 2013, but we can hope it’ll be sooner, right? 😀 China Glaze polishes generally retail between $7-$8. The 3-polish mini sets should be about $6.50, but that’s subject to change. I’ll update this if I find out more!

So which of the three collections I’ve previewed is your favorite so far? And which of the HoliGlaze colors do you like the best? Let me know in the comments!
